My wife surprised me with a weekend in Kerry for my Birthday last September, more then that it was to be a photography weekend. I know, she’s cool! I have shared a number of images from this particualr location a while ago but I came acorss this image while reviewing my back catalog of work in Aperture and wondered why I never published it. Well I wonder no more as here it is.
This was taken about 1.5 hours after the images I have shared before and you can see the weather has changed dramatically, with a very heavy sea mist swooping in. I am standing on Velentia Island and looking back across the sea to the small village of Portmagee. If you look closely you can see a warm glow hovering above the village has managed to penetrate the heavy mist.
I used a poloriser to help reduce the reflections and a 3 stop ND filter to slow the shooter speed down to 8 seconds so I could smooth out the motion of the sea. I used the weather beaten slap of granite in the foreground to help establish some scale and to lead the viewer into the image, pointing to the village as it does.
