Rest for a While – San Miguel, Spain

A mother goose takes a rest from looking after her young as a gander looks on.

As promised earlier in the week I  will continue to share some of the images I captured during my trip to Spain last June. We found a really nice spot for dinner just outside San Miquel near Orihuela in what for all intense and purposes was the grounds of a Moorish castle from the Medieval times. It was in fact a reconstruction built in the 1990′s but nevertheless was very impressive. I’ll share some images of the castle soon.

Behind the castle they have made two small man-made lakes and a host of bird-life had set up home there, including a number of geese. When we arrived they were tending their brood of goslings, but were quick to scurry their young into the safety of some nearby trees. Disappointing but completely understandable.

However there was one pair that were a little more brave and I spent a very pleasant 15 minutes with them as they wandered down to the lake to take a drink and a dip.
