Efflorescence

A close-up of the fine detail in the stamen of a purple flower.

My wife and I returned to my parents summer house is the south of Spain in June to recharge our batteries. In the 10 days I was there I rarely had the camera out of my hands, it was brilliant. I have quite a few images to share with you over the next while and to get things kicked off here is the first.

This flower may look familiar to some. I captured it when I was at the house last September. There are well maintained communal gardens very close to the house and this flower is one of an assortment that thrive there. Coming from Ireland as I do, where we have no shortage of rain I find it impressive that such beautiful flowers can grow in such an arid land. And if you study the flower you can see how because they have very thick leaves that can obviously gather and keep moisture for the inevitable long dry periods.

I am fascinated by the fine details in nature and for me this is just another example of that form and texture.
