Don’t Hate Me :-) – My New Canon 5D Mark II Arrives

Well the wait is finally over, my new 5D Mark II eventually arrived. I got a very welcome call from Mark in ISS yesterday to let me know they had received a couple and to come and collect mine. No sign of the extra battery but they promised they’ll post it to me when it arrives. Haven’t even managed to hook it up to a lens yet but will be taking it for a spin this weekend so stay tuned.

Hi Johan, yes it is an absolutely superb camera. Given the type of photography I take it's focus shortcomings don't impact me in anyway. The one thing I did not consider at the time was the overhead the larger 25MB RAW files would put on my workflow – processing and storage though.

    Hi John,

Thanks for the feedback. Gives you a nice excuse to buy a nice new computer also ;-)

    Cheers,

haha indeed. Although my 4yr old Gen1 MacPro is still holding up very well. Only upgrade I have needed was to up the RAM to 8GB. It is feeling a bit slow now though. I am considering moving over to the new i5 or i7 MacBook Pro's with the high-res screens.

Got myself an all singing and dancing Mac Pro last year. It emptied the pockets (more than) a bit, but never regretted it :D

Yep, they ain't cheap but worth every penny. My plan now though is to move solely to a MacBook Pro. I have an 09 model that lies unused on my desk most of the time and when I do need it it isn't synced with my desktop.

So I'm gonna sell both and buy a fully tricked out i7 with SSD and a second drive instead of the DVD. At home it'll be plugged in to the 30" monitor but I know when I pick it up and go I won't have to worry about it missing any of my work.

btw have you checked out Llyod Chamber's site? It has a lot of great articles on fine tuning Mac's for photographers.
